Fun in the Dark!

On Thursday Eden grounds were abuzz with excited Grade 2's....it was there Fun in the Dark evening!

Throughout our novel Plop explores reasons why people like the dark because HE DOES NOT LIKE IT AT ALL!
Mel and I decided to go with the theme and organised an evening in the dark. When the children arrived they were each given a mask with a secret number on it.

We then had Michael come and tell them the story  about Guy Fawkes. "Remember, remember the 5 of November " rang out as Michael taught them the song while building our own 'GUY' by stuffing newspaper into an old shirt and pants.

It was too light to put him on the stake so ....... we organised a treasure hunt around the school! This they did in pairs  (the special numbers were under their masks) Among other things they collected sparklers and pop pops. Some of the activities were writing their names in chalk on the car park! They loved asking Mrs Whillier for her second name too!

Now it was time to burn the guy! Oh my gosh what excitement!

We then lit the sparklers, played with the pop pops and made scary faces with our torches!

Eventually time was running out so we ended with a beautiful fireworks display and sent everyone home to bed! Thank you to Michael and Byron for so ably helping us out

Roic: The Sea Scout

Yesterday we read the next chapter in the owl who was afraid of the dark. Mel and I chose words that the children had to listen for while we read the chapter (and these later formed part of their spelling homework). Plop discovered that "Dark was Fun" when he spoke to a boy scout. Roic had brought his sea scout things to school and told us all about being a sea scout. Thank you Roic for sharing all you do at sea scouts with us. The children were enthralled. We are waiting for the rain to abate so that we can have our fun in the dark evening!

Charity Drive

One of the Grade 7's at Eden has decided to collect soft toys for children suffering from cancer and who are hospitalized. Byron , a facilitator in my class, has decided to run with the idea and involved the children in decorating a box for the toys. The children have embraced the idea and had great fun at break helping him. They also brought some beautiful teddies. I hope a lot more will be sent in through the course of the week.
