Eden Beach Clean Up

Yesterday some of the Eden children decided to go and do a beach cleanup! This was organised by Mrs Mazzoni. Although the day started off rainy and miserable, a few children braved the weather and went down onto the beach and started the picking up of other people's rubbish. We were all amazed by the sorts of things we found! After an hour we had managed to nearly fill 7 bags of rubbish. It was loads of fun and a project I believe should be encouraged and supported.

Yesterday Mel and I had great fun making up Firework Poems. Firstly we show the classes video clips of fireworks exploding and asked them for words that reminded them of the fireworks. We worked on the two sense namely: sound and sight! They came up with amazing ideas. We then took them into a darkened room and they were all given the opportunity to light sparklers. Oh what a treat it was to see all their faces light up with excitement! After all the excitement we then wrote poems in pairs. We were delighted with their work. Here they are!

On Thursday Mel and I decided to teach the children a little about summarizing information. Each group was given a sheet about an owl i.e. the Giant Eagle Owl, the Barn Owl and the Tawny owl. They had to extract information and reclassify it under the headings of habitat, appearance, diet and interesting facts! After a lot of discussion, each group produced a poster and had to then give feedback to the class as an oral on Friday of all they had learnt. I was so proud of how well they did.

The Menagerie

The ear
The talons
The Giant Spotted Eagle Owl

Today saw the start of our very exciting term - a visit by The Menagerie! Mel and I had shown the classes a power point on owls. This had been followed up by a little booklet that the children had made detailing 'facts that they had learnt' from the discussions. So the time was ripe for a visit to look at owls in real life ....... wow, what fun was had by all.

But then we learnt about some other animals too ..... some were very scary to touch!

And some were just too cute!
