Queen of the day : Andisiwe

If you like pizza you have something in common with Andisiwe! She loves pizza so much that she brought us some to share at school...it was DELICIOUS! She comes from a big family ... she has three brothers and sisters - one of them being a set of twins! She loves to help her mother do chores over the weekend - something I'm sure her mother must so appreciate. She loves playing with her dolls. She spoke really well and can be very proud of her oral. Well done Andisiwe.

Queen of the day: Keshme

Keshme was very lucky because she spent her 5th birthday in the Disney World in Hong Kong! How lucky is that! She has a fish tank which she says is bigger than the classroom and it lives in her lounge! Her best fish is a coral beauty. She brought her Dad's old camera to school (which is now hers) and passed the camera around so that we could all see what the coral beauty fish looked like. It really is a beautiful fish. She LOVES 'her Nelly' - the lady who looks after her - and would hate it if she left her.  Chicken curry is her favourite meal and many of the children in the class agreed with her. She doesn't like dogs as they frighten her. She also loves to swim at the Country Club.

Numberline work

This week we will be concentrating on working on the numberline during maths. The children will be encouraged to use a numberline to work out solutions to their problems. The idea behind this is it gives children different strategies to work out problems - they don't only RELY on ONE method. Some children may find this way easier!Look at website www.funbrain.com to practice

Fun maths on Friday

On Friday morning our maths consisted of GAMES! The children were placed in groups of between 4 and 5. One group played a maths game on the computer, the next group played a card game in which they had to add two cards together and the one who gained the highest number won all the cards and the last group played a game with dice. They had such fun and i know how much they learnt. Fridays are now going to be maths games days! The children can't wait.

First Day at School

A new term starts off with a ......BIRTHDAY BASH!

What a way to start a new term..... with a birthday bash! Eden College is 5years old this year so we, as a staff, decided to celebrate the event with a big birthday party. The whole school gathered on the field (in temp reaching 31 C!)  and were entained by all sorts of people. Eventually my children, clutching cupcakes in their sweaty palms, headed gratefully up into the airconditioned classroom!

In grade 2, we decided to carry on with birthday theme, so each child was welcomed with a special "Grade 2" party pack. Great fun was had blowing up balloons, finding places to sit and pinning pictures of themselves on the pinboard next to their friends. Unpacking stationery was an eventful exercise but we all managed to get through the day with no tears and loads of laughter. So looking forward to getting to know these new little souls.
