Shopkeeper

We have had great fun shopping this term. The children have brought fabulous items to sell each week and I believe that they have a much better understanding of money. They understand the difference between Rands and cents and most of them now can give simple change! Thank you to all the parents for your wonderful support. Next term will see the prices become more complex eg 53c and R1,45c instead of the simple 50c, R1,00 and R2,00 which we have mostly seen this term. Happy shopping!

Maybe others can try their hand when the next edition comes out!

Rosh HaShanah

Last week we celebrated Rosh HaShanah. That is the Jewish New Year. Rachael did a wonderful job enlightening us all. Well done Rachael! You and Dan made me so proud.

It makes a trumpet-like sound and is traditionally blown on Rosh HaShanah,

Thank you Mora Norma for making the assembly so interesting and so much fun.

Grandparents Day

On Wednesday we had grandparents day at Eden.  We started off the morning with a wonderful oral by Senthen who used a pirate hat and a parrot to aid him through his talk. They represented different characters. It really was excellent!

Mel and I decided to keep with our theme and teach our children how to tie a bowline knot with the help of their grandparents. Great fun was had by all.

Icecreams/Roomys

We were very sad when it rained on the night of our sleep over as we had arranged for the children to go across the road and get soft serve ice creams and we weren't able to go. BUT ........

a few days ago Mel and I came up with another brainwave! We have been discussing money and as many of you are aware we have a 'shopkeeper' every week so we thought that it would be an ideal opportunity for the children to do money calculations and go and get ice creams! We doubled up on that by including it in our afrikaans theme of 'Ek hou van ......ROOMYS! So off we traipsed across the road chanting ' Ons hou baie van roomys!'

Life is never boring in Grade two at Eden College!

Harbour outing

To end off the term we decided to go on an outing around the bay and visit the maritime museum. It was a perfect day and we all had a ball.

We boarded the Sarie Marais and there was great excitement when we had to put on life jackets.

There was great hilarity when Kiran took out of his lunch box a real coconut! The boys all proceeded to try many different ways to break the coconut and they eventually succeeded! The children were all delighted to try it!  Well done Kiran!

After that we visited two tugs at the maritime museum.

We left having, yet again, experienced learning which was relevant, exciting and meaningful.
