Botanical Gardens

Our theme this term has revolved around nature with Pim discovering all sorts of exciting things! In keeping with this and incorporating Arbour Week Mel and I took the children to Botanical Gardens.

Pim had met a warthog so we read a story called

to the children before we left. We divided them into groups and then in the amphitheatre in Botanical Gardens they performed the story! It was delightful to see how well they coped and they loved listening to each other ...although they soon realised that you really had to use a LOUD voice when on stage!

The children had noticed the different trees on our walk up to the amphitheatre so we decided to see how big this Ficus was ......... we all joined hands and only just made it around the tree!

We then ambled down to the lake and everyone delighted in the glory of spring......

After eating their lunch, we got them back into their groups. They had to collect as much litter, stones, leaves, sticks and feathers as they could in 5 minutes! The idea was to come back and count each item and add the groups totals together and then graph the results! It was great fun and both Mel and I had underestimated how many things they would collect....... The sticks were by far the most ( much to our surprise) and the feathers were the least.

We only had a few minutes left to feed the ducks before heading back to school......
