Burman Bush

Today there was much excitement in the Grade 2 passage! Hiking bags were packed, takkies were on and we were all ready to go to do a hike though Burman Bush in search of mini beasts....... yes we were learning the EA sound.

Mel and I (the teachers!) thought that seeing we were learning about nature this term we could tie it up with our phonics.

Six leaders were chosen to lead their own handpicked teams! Each team was given a plastic bracelet to wear : PEACE was written on each one! In other words - no fighting!

Before we left  we each made up the EA as a group: Grade 2 W (E) and Grade 2R (A)
.........

Then we were off .......

Kiran was a little scared at first so he was helped by our  guides!

Mrs Whillier inspecting : What could live in that hole in a tree?

Hundreds of termites

Inspection

A water break

Look out deck - looking at Umgeni River

Even saw Winsor Golf Course!

Off again ably led by our Park Ranger

Relief ! Snack time

We even had our own 'elephant 'walking back home again!

We arrived back at the entrance and the children all had a team rhyme to learn.....

'We are the team that can't be beat
That's because we never ever cheat!"

........ which they then performed for us!

In their groups they then settled down to look at the books that we had brought. They had to identify which mini beasts they had seen!

Thank you Mrs Regard for allowing us to take these from your precious library.

They have to wait for tomorrow to get their treat  ...... romany creams and chocolate dreams!

Sweet dreams to an exhausted bunch of happy children!
