Mel and I took our Grade 2's to Paradise Valley to learn to do what South Africans do best......... BRAAI! The children chose their groups of 4 (2 girls and 2 boys in each group!) and then each group collected a pack of pine cones, firelighters, matches and charcoal. I gave a short explanation on how to make a fire and then they were off to build their own.
After the excitement of making the fire, it came time to 'braai' their vienna sausages! There was much consternation as many felt that their fire had died as there were no flames! We had to persuade them that this was normal as if you had flames you would burn your food! Many were very doubtful!
We also provided food that you don't often get in other countries .... niknaks and cream soda.
Great fun was had by all and we all came home very wary!
