Baking on Friday

Not only was it Purim on Friday but Mel and I decided that we would like to make crunchy bread with our children - just like 'Carlo' the cook in the book 'Shoo Fly'. It certainly proved to be a challenging exercise ...... the children were all very excited by the festivities that had taken place just before and the bread makers for some reason kept tripping the power ! BUT we did eventually have great fun and the children absolutely loved eating their 'school' made bread!

On Thursday we divided the class into 3 groups as we had managed to scrounge around and get 3 bread makers for each class ( a BIG THANK YOU to the parents who lent us their machines!). We then asked them to sort out who would bring which ingredients. We emphasized team work and how each child had to be responsible and bring whatever they had promised otherwise it would be impossible for them to make bread.

They all brought their items to school and the excitement was tangible! Each group came and made their bread. Sejal was even dressed for the occasion....

We left the bread to bake and under very frustrating circumstances the bread eventually came out looking DELICIOUS!

Now it was time to butter and put their favourite spread on- they just couldn't wait......

What an exciting day Friday turned out to be and to go home after eating hot bread ..... doesn't often happen me thinks!
