Buongiorno Italy

Mel and I decided to introduce the children to Italy by using one of Italians most favourite foods ......... spaghetti! So with passports in hand each child had to 'enter' Italy by sucking up a spaghetti 'worm'. There was lots of hilarity but eventually we all 'arrive' safely into ITALY !

Shriya, over the weekend, thinking that we may be going to Italy brought some Foccacia for Show and Tell. She showed us all exactly how to make it......

Thank you, Shriya ...... you were right, we are in Italy!

After that we went straight to MILAN .... the fashion city of the world!

After a short introduction to some fashion designers Mel and told the children that they were going to be fashion designers for the day! They were each given a paper cut out doll with two outfits that they had to design. Oh my word what excitement ......
The boys' outfits

The girls' outfits

During the week Mel and I gave them an Atlas to look at. We found various countries that were in the World Cup and looked at where Italy was in relation to South Africa. They loved it and it was hard to tear them away..... so much so that Mel and I decided that we need to do more Atlas work with them! Watch this space!

On Friday after a short Prezi on the various tourist attractions found in Italy, we divided the class into groups of 3. Each group was given a map of Italy as well as some pictures of each tourist attraction that we had discussed. They had to choose 6 tourist attractions, locate where you would find them and write a sentence about each one. This was to be presented in a poster form.

Some groups found it more difficult than others to decide who was responsible for what and some needed a lot more guidance than others but at the end they all made posters that I was so proud of....

Well done Grade 2's
