What a week this has been in England....

We started off with some very excited children who brought and shared some of the things that were 'English' ....this always makes a teachers heart soar as it shows their interest in what they are learning about....

Cameron brought us his World Cup Soccer sticker book.
(which after all is why we are on this world tour!)
Ziyaad brought out his whole English trunk which was filled with loads of souvenirs

Kamira had drawn beautiful pics and Josh brought a famous
english telephone booth.

Sejal was a wonderful British supporter

Shriya brought beautiful pictures of her trip to England
when she was much younger .

Thank you, children, for your wonderful enthusiasm.
Mel and I planned a mum's English Garden Tea Party at the end of this week so we settled the children down to make 'tea bag' invitations. The emphasis was on repeating patterns to create a beautiful teapot which they did with such care.

We then dabbed used tea bags to make the background of the card....

We sent them home and the response was amazing ... so many 'YES PLEASE!'

Mel's son is on a GAP year in England at the moment and he happened to visit the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday so Mel and I thought that it would be a wonderful opportunity for the children to chat 'live' to him. It was amazing for us all as we heard Alistair so clearly and he explained, first hand, to the children all that he had seen. He even saw the queen drive past!
Modern technology certainly makes teaching exciting
for these children!

They all had an opportunity to ask Alistair questions.

It was an amazing learning experience .... for me too!

Finally the big day arrived..... the end of our time in England and a THE tea to celebrate this with our mums! Mel and I decided to make it a dress up occasion and each child was given a topic to come dressed up as.... and oh my word did they come dressed up! Mel and I were blown away by the amount of effort that each family made. ........

The royalty... Queens, Kings, Princes and Princesses!

Taxi drivers and Train drivers

Victoria Beckham, Justin Beiber and a Very Trendy Fashion Designer

Chefs and Fishmongers

Soccer and tennis players

A Soldier, Guard and a policeman
They all gave a short speech about what they did before we started making eats for tea - cucumber sandwiches and scones!

Mrs Whillier's class made the scones

and our class made delicious cucumber sandwiches .....

We set out and decorated the tables before we met our very glamorous mum's who really went all out and dressed so beautifully for the occasion.

It was soon time for the mums ( and children!) to find out why we had asked them not to wear high heeled shoes......

DANCE TIME!!!! Jean Wiggel came in specifically to teach everyone a historically English Dance that later was adopted into the American culture as one of their favourite Barn Dances. Thank you so much, Jean.

Laughter could be heard echoing down the passages as mum's and sons/daughters connected in a very special way. It was such a wonderful way to end a special 'English' week.
